There are many oil & gas industry support services located around St. John’s Harbour. The Port of St. John’s is one of the most adaptable and versatile petroleum supply and service centres on the east coast of North America. It has the largest and most modern base in Atlantic Canada and is connected to an extensive supply and service network.

A. Harvey’s Offshore Supply Base provides docking and services for offshore supply vessels and other specialty ships. NEWDOCK, which specializes in offshore fabrication and ship repair,  is the province’s largest machine repair facility and includes a dry dock, cranes and a 4,000 tonne marine elevator. Irving Oil’s marine terminal provides marine fuels. These are just a few of the many facilities servicing the oil and gas sector.

Skilled Trades:

  • Electricians – specialize in the electrical wiring of buildings and facilities offshore.
  • Painters/Blasters – operate blasting and spray painting equipment to paint or apply other industrial coatings to manufactured items to high quality, meeting offshore standards.
  • Pipefitters – lay out piping systems and ensure the components are tacked together. 
  • Welders – finish welding joints in piping systems. They also weld structural steel, aluminum and other materials.
  • Crane Operators – operate hydraulic and/or cable equipment to lift and move materials, machines and/or products in many directions.
  • Millwrights/Machinists – install, maintain, and repair stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.
